Much of the work of our practice has been in historic contexts – adding to or restoring a historic building, or working within historic districts – and we have become especially adept at adjusting to the demands of the situation. Preservation allows a designer to reveal and assert some of our shared history, and when the work of restoration and adaptive re-use is combined with a modern addition we can “make time visible.”  Of our seven National AIA Honor Awards, six are for additions to historic structures.
