Angela Ward Hyatt
President, FAIA, NCARB
Library Practice Leader
Angela is the President of Schwartz/Silver, and the leader of the firm’s practice in Library design. She received her first library commission at thirteen, when she was invited by her eighth grade teacher to help her hometown of Norway, Iowa adapt a small prefab structure to library use. Forty years later, the Norway Public Library remains one of the few civic structures in the small farming community. Libraries have become Angela’s career focus, and her work has been recognized with eight national design awards. Her public libraries include new buildings for Baton Rouge and Medford, and significant expansions of historic libraries for Milton and Hyde Park. Her renovation of Connecticut College’s Shain Library transformed a Brutalist concrete fortress into a welcoming, vibrant place of learning. Angela is restoring her historic Second Empire home and has an Instagram account (@roxburyroamer) dedicated to the architecture of Roxbury, one of Boston’s oldest and most marginalized neighborhoods.
