Warren Schwartz to Feature in Documentary

Warren Schwartz, one-half of Schwartz/Silver’s founding partnership, has been interviewed for an upcoming documentary, Mint in Box. When not practicing architecture, Warren’s primary hobby is collecting Japanese toy robots. His extensive collection has previously been displayed in the Muskegon Museum of Art under the exhibition title Japanese Warriors: Robots from the Warren Schwartz Collection.

The stated mission of the film is to uncover what motivates collectors like Warren to pursue this particular pastime.

How does the iconography of a specific genre of toys from childhood continue to maintain a hold on us well into our adulthood? What moves us? Is it sentiment, appreciation of a beautiful object, or simply the innate desire to acquire? With pop culture from Japan influencing the globe, the film takes a deeper look at the obsession with vintage robot/kaiju toy collecting as well as the people and stories behind it.
