Wheeler School Library
Wheeler School Library
The Wheeler School - Providence, Rhode Island
The site for the library was chosen to fill a space that formerly exposed a courtyard to the distractions of a busy street. It therefore also functions as a passage between the city on one side and the campus on the other. The library therefore needed to have two faces: one at the lower street level, functioning as an entrance to the school, and the other at the upper courtyard level, where students and staff would enter the building during the day. The tower houses quiet, contemplative reading spaces with views over the rest of the campus.
